About Scott Fox

I THINK WE CAN DO BETTER. THE SUCCESS OF SILICON VALLEY NEEDS TO BE SHARED.

After a couple of decades of building my own businesses, I can do what I want. And what I want most is to help more people participate in the revolution of opportunity that the Internet offers.

But... too much of the expertise, networks, and capital that power innovation today is locked in closed communities. Most of the planet does not live in the Bay Area but deserves improved access to the tools, money, and people that can leverage their creativity to improve the world.

We can and should do better. It’s short-sighted to presume that “the next big thing” is going to come from Stanford graduates like me. With so many problems (aka opportunities for improvement) in the world, it is up to us entrepreneurs to work together to make the world a better place.

I love helping early stage founders bring their ideas to life, and working with local communities to accelerate their local startup ecosystems, too. From my home in southern California, I am an active angel investor and serve the worldwide startup community as CEO of the Startup Council. That’s a community service group I founded to help under-represented founders worldwide gain increased access to the capital, people, and networks they need to put their own “dents in the universe”.

I enjoy working with entrepreneurs, especially smart, motivated founders of high potential startup companies. Since I started as a founder (after years on Wall Street as an Investment Banker) and now am an active angel investor, my experience in venture capital and fundraising strategies is often very helpful to early stage venture CEOs worldwide.

You wrote some books?

Yes, but I’m not a writer, I’m a business, man.

My personal business model is not based around selling you books.  (In fact, I give the profits from my books to charity.)

The 3 books I’ve written are all to help you learn how to design your own business and career leveraging Internet entrepreneurship, software, and online marketing like I have:

1. Click Millionaires: Work Less, Live More with an Internet Lifestyle Business You Love is my latest best-seller.  It’s the #1 guide to Internet lifestyle entrepreneurship that can help you redesign your life and career to find and profit from the work you were born to do.

2. e-Riches 2.0: Next Generation Online Marketing Strategies, the best “Plain English” guide to social media marketing strategies that can help you learn how to put Facebook, Twitter, blogs, podcasting, YouTube and all that stuff to work for you.

3. Internet Riches, my pioneering introduction to the Internet business revolution that can help you get your share online, even with no technical training or venture capital.

Worldwide best-sellers, these books have been translated into Japanese, Russian, Turkish, Vietnamese, Polish, and more!

What qualifies you to be writing books?

After graduating from the University of Michigan I first earned my stripes on Wall Street.  After rising to become the youngest Vice President at a major NY investment bank I retired for the first time (at age 25). After scuba diving my way around the world for a year, I decided to attend Stanford Law School and worked my way into success again in Silicon Valley and Hollywood.  I started writing books after I earned my e-commerce and online marketing expertise by building successful businesses online

These have ranged from niche startups, to web sites for TV celebrities like Bill O’Reilly and Larry King, to the multi-billion dollar online division of a Fortune 500 corporation, to my own startup strategy MasterMinds coaching community and events.

I also enjoy working with entrepreneurs and startup companies in my local ecosystem.  If you are in or around Orange County, California, please come join one of the MasterMinds OC startup strategy coaching workshops I host to support local entrepreneurship. Or attend the many free Zoom and YouTube Startup Office Hours webcasts I host to help connect entrepreneurs with startup investors.

Today I spend most of my time as an angel investor and strategic advisor to entrepreneurial founders and innovation ecosystems. I founded the Startup Council to help under-represented founders get more access to investment capital and expertise. As an angel investor, I’m active with Tech Coast Angels, a Charter Member of TiE, Chairman of Stanford Angels for Orange County, an LP in several VC funds, and regularly serve as a Judge for startup pitch competitions and the Congressional App Challenge. I enjoy media interviews and appearing as a Keynote Speaker and Panelist at startup events worldwide. I also occasionally serve as an “Ambassador” for startups who I believe have the potential to be elite, high growth, success stories.

Here's a Wikipedia page one of my readers put up about me, too:

Why?

My mission is to help more entrepreneurs build great teams that help improve the startup ecosystem.

I believe the Internet offers the greatest democratization of opportunity in business history and I’m committed to helping more diverse founders reach their potential by using it to better their own lives and communities the same way I have.

Who cares?

My work and books have been covered by press outlets including the print and/or web editions of publications like the New York Times, Boston Globe, LA Business Journal, Toronto’s Globe & Mail, Wall Street Journal, Philadelphia Inquirer, USA Today, Orange County Register, AOL Small Business, Smart Money and SUCCESS magazines, and many, many radio programs and blogs worldwide.
